Mining equipment isn’t cheap, and they certainly don’t condone inattention. They work in grueling environments, both all day long. Therefore, if you wish them to last, and continue functioning well, you need to put in the work.

I’ve witnessed million-dollar machinery failure early because a few basic things were missing. However, I’ve witnessed 10-year-old loaders operate smoothly.

It’s because the team were able to manage their mining equipment industry properly. If you’re seeking more energy and less downtime with your equipment, then here’s the best place to put your focus.

Make Sure You Adhere To The Maintenance Schedule

The missed service will come at you. Every mining machine includes a checklist to follow. Changes to oil, filters and belt checks–take care to do it on time and not only when something fails.

I’ve been to places that recorded every service in hours. What happened? The breakdowns of their teams dropped to the half. It’s a matter of routine, not just a response.

If a truck is operating 24 hours per day there is a chance that a couple of misplaced oil points could lead to an unrepaired joint or a busted piston. Keep to your plan and the truck will pay your trust with years of steady job.

Make Sure You Use The Right Parts And Fluids

This tip is often overlooked more than it is. Filters that aren’t brand-name or cheaper may appear to be a clever price cut, but they wear quicker and could damage key equipment.

The wrong hydraulic fluid led to a dozer in the middle of a job to stop steering. Repair costs more than two times what the proper oil could have. Follow the specifications recommended by the manufacturer.

Don’t play around using a mismatched seal, hose or fittings, either. If an item isn’t made to work with your equipment it isn’t appropriate for the first place.

Train Operators In The Right Way

A skilled operator will add years to the life of a machine. If you’re not careful, it can take many years off. I’ve seen equipment damaged because someone was breaking excessively or revving up the engine when it started.

It’s all about training. It is important to ensure that the team understands how to get warm on equipment, maneuver through difficult terrain and spot the early warning signs of problems.

The site I went to had operators conduct periodic check-ins and refresher exercises. The mining industry equipment was cleaner as well as lasting longer. It also broke less frequently and was more efficient.

Keep It Clean Both Inside And Out
Dirt dirt and other debris can cause more harm than people think. Clean cooling systems can cause excessive heat. Dust on seals can cause more wear.

Dusty cabins may damage electronic components as time passes. I’ve helped a group clean their vehicle every week and blow air filters daily.

The repairs decreased while fuel efficiency increased. Clean gear doesn’t just look better–it runs better. Do not view cleaning as an obligation, make it an integral part of your job.

Pay Attention To The Data And Catch Issues Early.

Modern devices have diagnostics built in. Utilize these. Keep track of fuel consumption temperatures, engine temperature, high levels of vibration and the changes in pressure.

The indicators will let you know when you’re not in the right place, before it even breaks. The mining facility I was working at was using added vibration sensors on their conveyor systems.

If it’s just a basic dashboard alert or an entire Telematics system, pay attention to the message your device is giving you. The earliest fixes will always be less expensive than a complete overhaul.

    Conclusion

Equipment returns what you put into. If you care about the equipment–keep it in good condition, make use of top-quality components, teach your employees, maintain it tidy, and keep an eye on the information.

It will work for longer, more efficiently and will cause less problems. The goal isn’t only to avoid malfunctions; it’s about making every minute, every pound of weight, and every penny of the expenditure.

When the machines are solid, the whole process is more efficient. For mining companies, this is the main difference between making money and suffering.
